PPAR/RSC Leadership Statement on MLS Merger Talks

PPAR’s primary focus is to advance and protect the value of the REALTOR® brand and to provide its membership the best available tools, services and technologies through the association and its MLS, The Pikes Peak REALTOR® Services Corp. (RSC). After thoughtful discussions and thorough deliberations, our Boards of Directors have decided to not enter into the merger talks with REColorado and IRES. At this time, our leadership feels it is not appropriate for our organizations to enter into the merger discussions.

REColorado and IRES have already begun discussions and have developed a model, which works for the two organizations. Our organizations (PPAR AND RSC) were not included in any of the conversations to develop a 15-point Letter of Intent outlining the items for discussion. The Board of Directors felt signing a letter of intent, on which our organizations had no input, was not in the best interest of the organization or our REALTOR® Members.

At this time data share is not an option available to us, but we continue to be open to other solutions to provide our members the best data-share options available across the state, including future merger discussions. RSC has announced its willingness to participate in data-sharing with any MLS in the state. Our organizations believe that all solutions, both short- and long-term, need to be carefully and openly considered.

PPAR continues to work diligently to improve products and services available to our members and MLS users. RSC will soon be introducing single sign-on capabilities, allowing you to access many real estate tools with your MLS log in. We are making progress with our discussions with Zillow and are looking at a variety of other tools to help you in your business. As a REALTOR® Association, we will continue to focus on protecting the industry by ensuring policies are friendly to REALTORS® and consumers. In fact, thanks to the efforts of REALTORS® across the country, the National Flood Insurance Legislation is another step closer towards reauthorization as the 21st Century Flood Reform Act.
PPAR leadership is open to future talks with RE Colorado and IRES while continuing to advance and protect the REALTOR® brand and professionals in the real estate industry.
