How to receive NAR & CAR email

Effective September 27, 2004, PPAR will only correspond with it's membership via the ppar.net email domain. In order to provide its members with a communication mailbox that contains only news and information from the Association without the member having to dig through dozens or hundreds of Junk Email to find those legitimate messages, ppar.net mailboxes are locked down. This lock down will ensure that the ppar.net mailboxes will only accept email messages that originate from within the Association's internal network of computers.

Up to September 27, 2004, PPAR membership data, including the email address stored in the PPAR Membership Database, is  uploaded to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) nightly. However, after this lock-down is in effect, the PPAR mail server will reject email messages from the CAR and NAR mail servers as those email servers do not reside on the internal PPAR network.

This means that by default, PPAR members who are CAR Directors or NAR Directors will not receive email correspondence from CAR or NAR. Likewise, PPAR Members who have signed up for one of NAR or CAR's email communication email lists, such as the NAR Legislative Update or Daily REALTOR® News will no longer receive email from those "lists".

In order to continue to receive email correspondence of any kind from NAR or CAR, members will need to manually update their preferred email address in NAR's NRDS database. Once your preferred email address in manually entered by you into your NRDS record, you will once again be able to receive email from both NAR and CAR.

To manually enter your email address into NRDS, follow these few simple steps.

  1. Open your web browser and got to www.realtor.org. In the left hand menu bar, click on NRDS/Member Profile:

  1. Log in to realtor.org. If you have never logged in to realtor.org, then you will need to create a user account. To create a user account, click on the "Get One Here" link under the Not Registered header. If you have a login to realtor.org, log in and then proceed to step 7. If you need to create a user account at realtor.org, proceed to step 9.

  2. To create your account at realtor.org, you will need to know your NRDS number. For PPAR members, this should be fairly easy as your NRDS number is also what you use as your PPMLS Login ID. The first page will ask if you are a realtor. Choose the realtor option and then click on Proceed With Registration.

  3. The next page now asks you for your NRDS number and then also the last 4 digits of your social security number. After entering these 2 fields, click on "Continue..."

  4. Now you create your username and password. Your username can be absolutely anything that you choose - as long as it is unique and not in use by any one else. If someone has already chosen your username, the system will notify you that you need to create a different one. Complete all fields and click on "Continue..."

  5. Next, you will see this reminder which states that you are not done yet.

  6. Next, choose the email lists that you want to subscribe to and then click on "Register..."

  7. You have now successfully created your logon to realtor.org and will see this message. Wait a couple of minutes and then sign in to realtor.org

  8. After logging in to realtor.org, click on the Connect to NRDS button.

  9. Now click on the link "Change my own basic information in NRDS"

  10. You now see the screen below. For the purpose of email, you do not need to modify or enter any information other than your preferred email address. After entering your email address, click on the Save Changes button.

  11. After clicking on Save Changes, you are finished manually registering your email address with NAR. You will now be able to receive email from the lists that you have subscribed to. Also, CAR and NAR directors will be now receive their email correspondence from the committees and departments that they are involved with.
