PPAR and RSC have been made aware of another scam targeting REALTORS® in Colorado Springs. This time, someone posing as a Japanese real estate buyer (names used thus far include Dr. Takeuchi Keigo and his financial advisor Mr. Andrew St. Clair) is contacting Realtors; three so far. The scammer insists on sending the earnest money ahead of time and also supplied bank statements showing three million dollars (which couldn’t be verified by the bank). We’ve reported on this type of scenario before where the scammer tries to get the recipient of the check to deposit it. Apparently, if the check is deposited the scammer will quickly request the recipient to return some portion of the funds to the scammer. Don’t get fooled.
