The PPMLS TempoŽ System and Internet Explorer 7
Microsoft has released a new version of Internet
Explorer. The new IE7 is a more secure web browser than IE6 and introduces many
new features. The PPMLS system is now updated and approved for use with IE7. To
assist Participants with the upgrade process, RSC is making available 2
optional downloads that are pre-configured to allow the PPMLS Tempo system to
work correctly.
Please read the Install Notes
below so that you know what changes our custom install will make to your
computer and then select the appropriate download file. You may also want to
print this page.
Note: Internet Explorer 7 is becoming a Windows
Automatic Update in November 2006. You may install by using the links below or
by visiting www.microsoft.com/ie or by
waiting for Windows to automatically upgrade your computer.
Microsoft has also discontinued support for the
aging Windows 95, 98 and 2000 operating systems.

Install Notes for RSC's IE7 Custom Installation package:
- IE7 will only install and run on Windows XP with
Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista. Microsoft is not making IE7 available for
Windows 98 or Windows 2000 as all support for these old operating systems
has ended.
- If you are running a Beta version of IE7, you must
upgrade to the final release. The beta versions of IE7 are not approved for
use with the PPMLS Tempo system.
- This installation has been configured for RSC
Participants by
- adding the RSC and PPAR Web Sites to the Trusted
Sites list and the Allowed Pop-up Lists.
- Setting Internet Temporary Files folder size to 65
MB. This is to prevent some "caching" issues that users have had with
the PPMLS system.
- Setting the configuration so that IE7 looks for new
versions of web pages on "Every Visit"
- The installation will make
www.pikespeakrsc.com your home
page. (Note that IE7 supports multiple home pages thanks to the new
"Tabbed Browsing Feature".)
- Adding the PPAR web sites to your Favorites List.
- Except for these noted settings, this IE7 Installation is
the same as if you downloaded and installed it from Microsoft or if you
received it from the Windows Automatic Updates.
- RSC has not modified any of the Security Zone Settings or
Security Settings or Advanced Settings.
- The first time that IE7 is run after
installing/upgrading to IE7, the "Run Once" page will appear and ask you if
you want to change or keep your default Search Engine. It will also ask if
you want to turn the Phishing Filter on or off. RSC recommends that users
turn this Feature on. This will help prevent your computer from potential
attack by hackers. After you make your selections, click on the Save button
at the bottom of the page. The
www.pikespeakrsc.com
web site will automatically appear.
- If your computer does not behave the way you think it
should, IE7 and these customized settings may be uninstalled through the
Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. Uninstalling IE7 will revert your
computer back to it's current IE6 installation.
- Please contact your computer consultant if you need
further assistance.
As with any Internet
download from any site, you are assuming responsibility for what you install on
your computer.
If you have not installed IE7, or have the
beta version installed,
click here to do a full installation of IE7
preconfigured as noted above.
This is a 16MB file. It will download in 3-5 minutes on
most high-speed connections and may take 30 minutes or more on a modem
connection. The file size will not change whether it is downloaded from RSC,
Microsoft or Windows Updates.
If you have already installed IE7,
click here to install only the RSC
customizations noted above. This package will not install
on the beta versions of IE7. It will only install on the final release,
available above. This is a 1.5 MB file. It will download quickly on
high-speed connections and in approx 3-5 minutes on a modem connection.
