Remarks Scrubbing    9/13/2006

The RSC Board of Directors represent and serve the PPMLS Participants with policies designed to provide current and comprehensive information services and keep REALTORS® in the center of the transaction.

·        As you know, the PPMLS Rules authorize limited listing data to be posted on Internet sites.  Property Description Remarks are provided to password-protected Internet sites (Updated 5/20/2008-Property Description Remarks no longer have to be password protected).  For several years PPMLS has “scrubbed” these remarks for content believed to be in violation of Fair Housing policies before they were disseminated to Internet sites.  Recently RSC legal counsel reviewed the “Not Acceptable” list to ensure that words and phrases were still applicable.

·        The PPMLS TEMPO computer system now houses nearly 15,000 prospects.  In an effort to prevent “Not Acceptable” content from being disseminated through Prospect email, RSC moved the “Fair Housing” scrubber to the Add/Edit process in the TEMPO system.

·        As a consequence, when listings are added or edited in the TEMPO system, the computer will “scrub” the Property Description Remarks and Supplements for content deemed “Not Acceptable” to Fair Housing, and also for content that does not describe the “physical attributes” of the property.  The computer will delete all unauthorized text from these remarks.  (The two scrubber lists are: Fair Housing, Remarks)

·        Property Description, Supplement, and Photo Remarks are also manually reviewed by RSC staff.  If other unauthorized content is detected, the listing agent will be emailed with a request to remove the content within two business days or risk having the listing temporarily Withdrawn from PPMLS.

Thank you for your cooperation.  If you have questions please email us at ppmls@ppar.org.
